BCC Science Activities for the Young Child

Barton Community College invites early childhood educators, afterschool providers, community volunteers, and families to participate in Science Activities for the Young Child, a special hybrid class designed to bring the wonders of science into the lives of young learners.

This one-credit-hour course, taught by Coordinator of Early Childhood and Elementary Education KellyAnn Bonnell, will meet 6 - 8:30 p.m. June 18 and July 24 on the Barton County Campus. Between these sessions, participants will complete engaging online assignments to deepen their learning.

Bonnell said the course allows participants to build a portfolio of hands-on science activities designed for toddlers, preschoolers, and school-age children. It will introduce the Next Generation Science Standards for preschool and an overview of the Kansas Early Learning Standards for Science. Participants will also gain hands-on experience with fun, educational science projects that can be easily integrated into their work with young learners.

“Whether you’re an early care and education professional, an afterschool enrichment provider, a community volunteer in programs like scouting or Sunday school, or a parent or grandparent looking to make science come alive for young children, this course is a fantastic opportunity to enhance your skills and spark curiosity in the next generation,” she said.
