Miss Barton County & Miss Golden Belt Pageant
Miss Barton County & Miss Golden Belt will be crowned during a scholarship pageant competition at 7 p.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2013 at the Great Bend High School Auditorium. On this evening, at least 8 girls will be competing for the titles, but also the stardom of service for our community. Along with these awards, the girls can win $1,000 plus in scholarship money.
The Miss Barton County & Miss Golden Belt Organization is seeking contestants to fulfill these titles. Miss Barton County is a closed pageant and the title holder must be from Barton County, or currently reside here. Miss Golden Belt is an open title and can be from anywhere in the State of Kansas. Both title winners will receive a scholarship, both will be required to be present at various community events and activities and both will proceed to the Miss Kansas Pageant in April to represent our county and area.
To be a part of the pageant a young woman must be 17-24 years of age. The process to enroll is easy, simply go to www.missamericaforkids.org create a profile and the paperwork will be sent to them.
Contestants will compete in four phases of competition at the pageant, including an interview, talent competition, swimsuit wear and evening wear. During the competition, each contestant will also discuss her chosen platform, a social or community issue of concern to herself and our society at large. By the end of the evening, one young woman will be crowned Miss Barton County and another will be crowned Miss Golden Belt.
After being crowned the two ladies will travel to Pratt, Kansas, on the June 6th to compete for the Miss Kansas title. More scholarships will be up for grabs for these young women at this pageant as well. Miss Kansas Scholarship Organization has made available scholarships and in-kind funds to young women throughout the state of Kansas in the past several years. Organization Coordinator, Mrs. Kristy Hogan said she is impressed with the caliber of this year’s contestants. “We are very pleased with the number of intelligent, ambitious and talented young women who have entered the competition,” Hogan said. “With the number of outstanding contestants, it will be a challenging task for the judges to choose the next Miss Barton County & Miss Golden Belt.” Tickets are $5 and are being pre-sold at the Great Bend City Offices, Great Bend Chamber of Commerce, Beautiful Beginnings and Straub International.
