DESCRIPTION:Angela Bates\, Nicodemus Historian and descendant will share with you her thoughts and experiences on civil rights in the 1960's and 1970's while growing up in Pasadena\, California\, but experiencing Nicodemus every summer. As a descendant and historian of Nicodemus\, she will share with you the affects of civil rights on the community and how it shaped it in its infancy and development. Nicodemus was established in 1877 at the end of Reconstruction\, and is the oldest and only remaining all black town west of Mississippi. It stands as a national icon to the African American experience in the West.
