SUMMARY:Reception: Search for the Sublime
DESCRIPTION:*Department Chair at Cowley College\, Mark Flickinger's paintings are centered on the search for the sublime\, iconic\, American vista. The subject of Flickinger's work is a study of the light effects in nature as expressed through color and texture. He finds in the Kansas landscape a source that is wondrous and fair. *Barbara Steven is a retired art faculty member from Cloud County Community College\, where she finished with 13 years as Head of the Art Department. Her work has the look and feel of Earth and geological processes. She states\, "I have become fascinated with the beauty of the simple forms and the incredible craftsmanship of these [Native American] ancient pots. This\, along with being raised on a Kansas farm in the fifties\, when life was simple and centered around the church and God's good earth\, has influenced the earthy quality of my forms\, with them progressing over the years to the simple primitive forms I am making today."
