Kids Ag Day
The Great Bend Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development’s Ag-Business Committee is planning the 26th Annual Kid’s Ag Day on Wednesday, September 4, 2019. Over 350 fourth-grade students will be invited from schools, both public and private, from Claflin, Hoisington, Ellinwood, Otis-Bison, Pawnee Rock and Great Bend. This year’s event will be held at Diamond K Farm, (Ron Koelsch’s farm), 706 SW 20 Rd, Great Bend, KS.
Over the past twenty-six years we have educated students “on the farm” covering different agriculture related subjects. The students spend the day listening to talks about crops. livestock, machinery and much more. They also take a hayrack ride, attend a petting zoo, and eat lunch. As you are aware, this innovative program has been very successful and served as a model for other communities in Kansas and other states in developing their programs. The primary goal of “Kid’s Ag Day” is to help students gain a better understanding of the agriculture industry and its importance to our local economy. We receive a tremendous amount of positive feedback from teachers and their students after they spend the day on the farm. We have also received national recognition from a number of agricultural organizations.
