About Us

Barton Community College is a comprehensive community college located in Central Kansas serving Rice, Rush, Ellsworth, Stafford, Pawnee, Ellis and Barton Counties. Students have the option of enrolling in face-to-face and online courses. The beautiful main campus sits on 160 acres atop a hill about two miles northeast of Great Bend. Barton also boasts the Camp Aldrich, which sits on 290 acres of rolling hills and grassland north of Cheyenne Bottoms.

From 2018-2021, approximately 30,000 students were enrolled in Barton's educational offerings. The volume of hours taken by those students equates to about 10,750 full time students. Despite the impact of Covid-19, Barton was able to grow credit hours earned during spring and summer 2020 by nearly 1.5% over the previous year. On-campus housing is available for up to 440 students, with ADA compliant rooms available.

Barton offers general education courses, Career Technical (CTE) programs, online courses, transfer options, and GED courses. In addition, opportunities exist in fine and performing arts as well as athletics. Barton is a leader in providing training to the military, with service locations at Fort Riley and Fort Leavenworth, which impacts educational opportunities and offerings for residents of the Flint Hills region and Northeast Kansas.
