Sunflower Diversified Services Pancake Dinner

A traditional breakfast is on the menu again for the annual Sunflower Diversified Services pancake dinner, which is the official kick-off to the non-profit agency’s Sunrise Campaign.

Tickets are now available for the dinner, which is scheduled for 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11 at the Prince of Peace Parish Center, 4100 Broadway, Great Bend.

Those who get tickets should note there is a misprint on them. The event is at the parish center, not St. Rose Auditorium. The dinner includes all-you-can-eat pancakes and sausage for $5.

“The pancake flipping is always popular with everyone,” said Connie Oetken, Sunflower director of development. “Chris Cakes and DJ Cain are enthusiastic, and share their food and fun during our annual dinner.

“Most important, though, we are raising money for children and adults in central Kansas with developmental disabilities and delays,” Oetken noted. “All the money we raise stays in our local communities and directly helps our neighbors.”

Proceeds from the Sunrise Campaign are used for children’s programs, as well as wheelchair modifications, communications devices, and help with medical and dental bills.

“These are among many items that are not covered by insurance or tax revenues,” Oetken explained. “This fundraiser helps us fill in some of the gaps.”

Sunflower, which got its start 48 years ago, provides services for infants, toddlers and adults in Barton, Pawnee, Rice, Rush and Stafford counties.
